Consultant time tracking

Log the hour where the client work happens.

Reconstructing Friday's hours from a calendar on Monday is a poor start to billing. Billable8 gives consultants several ways to record time against the client project, with the commercial context attached.

Choose the entry method that fits the work

Use the timer for a focused session. Enter a duration on a task when you've just finished the work. Use the weekly grid when you're reviewing several days together.

The important part is the record you leave: which client, which project, what work and when it happened. A fast entry method only helps if you can explain the time later.

Review before the memory fades

Before you finish work, check unlogged time and obvious mistakes. Calendar import can help you identify a meeting, but an appointment isn't proof that every minute belongs on a client invoice.

Confirm the duration and whether the work is billable. Keep internal activity separate so a full working day doesn't automatically become a full billable day.

  • Check the client and project before saving.
  • Use a description your reviewer can understand.
  • Look for overlapping or duplicate entries.
  • Resolve missing rates before the billing review.

Carry the rates with the entry

Billable8 stores bill and cost rates with time entries. When rates change later, the older work keeps its recorded basis. That gives the billing review a consistent starting point.

Rates are still your responsibility. Choose the intended client and project, check the configured values and use an explicit correction process when earlier work needs to change.

Move from a timesheet to a checked amount

Review the time before billing. On retainer work, check the correct period and allowance. On fixed-fee work, use time to understand delivery cost rather than assuming every additional hour changes the fee.

Billable8 keeps the work behind the checked amount. Send the final invoice through your accounting system and retain its reference with your billing record.

Try one project first

Solo is designed for one internal user; Team supports shared delivery. Client portal users are free and don't see internal cost or margin.

Create one client and project, configure the relevant rates, then record a normal day's work. Review the resulting time and billing view before importing a large history. Clockify and CSV imports are available when you're ready to bring existing records across.
